Friday’s Feature: The Anxiety Wrap

April 27th, 2012 · No Comments

I bet the wrap feels good, mommy!

TODAY’S TIDBIT:  We thought we’d better give The Anxiety Wrap equal time as we did for the Thundershirt.  “The Anxiety Wrap uses maintained pressure and acupressure to relieve stress and end/lessen fears and anxieties in dogs,” reads their website at www.anxietywrap.com.

Professional dog trainer, Susan Sharpe invented The Anxiety Wrap in 2001, the first of its kind on the market.  “It comes with two straps that bring awareness to the dog’s hindquarters where they often store stress and fear.  The straps are detachable and adjustable to meet a dog’s individual needs.”

If your Yorkie barks a lot, is nervous during thunderstorms and fireworks or is anxious in the car maybe she needs a “therapeutic hug” from the Anxiety Wrap.  You can purchase it from their website at www.anxietywrap.com.

Have a wonderful weekend everybody and see you on Wednesday for TODAY’S TIDBIT.

Friday’s Feature: Reflective Safety Gear for Dogs

April 13th, 2012 · No Comments

I'll wear a vest, mommy!

TODAY’S TIDBITA reflective leash and vests could save you and your Yorkie’s lives!

There’s no sidewalks on the court where we live.  So when folks are out at night walking their dogs on the road it’s almost impossible to see them when we’re driving until we’re almost right beside them!!!

I can’t emphasize enough how important it is for you and your dog to wear something reflective to car headlights if you’re going to walk your dog at dusk or at night.  A reflective vest for you and your dog will make you far more visible to drivers.

A doggie reflective vest

There’s a wide selection of online websites that sell doggie safety gear.  And you can purchase reflective leads at pet stores like Petsmart.  We came across a funky site www.KeepDoggieSafe.com that supplies all kinds of neat safety products like reflective vests and lighted leashes.

Keep you and your Yorkie safe!  Have a great weekend everybody and see you on Wednesday for TODAY’S TIDBIT.

Chocolate Bunnies Belong To You

March 30th, 2012 · 2 Comments

I'm not feeling well today, mommy!

TODAY’S TIDBIT:  Hi Folks, Gideon is a little under the weather today (not because he ate an Easter Bunny) so we’ve reached back into the archives and re-posted this important post for you to read.

Keep Chocolate Bunnies Away From Your Yorkie
TODAY’S TIDBIT:  I have a sweet tooth and love chocolate!  I’m hoping the Easter Bunny is generous this year.  We know that dogs like sweet foods but CHOCOLATE IS TOXIC to dogs and can make your Yorkie very sick.  So keep your chocolate under lock and key!

Chocolate contains caffeine and theobromine that when ingested can be poisonous to your dog.  Yorkies are tiny and it wouldn’t take much chocolate to seriously hurt them.  So go and enjoy your chocolate Easter egg hunt but keep your Yorkie safe at home with her special doggie treats.

Have a great weekend every body and see you on Wednesday for TODAY’S TIDBIT.

Friday’s Feature: Thundershirt

March 16th, 2012 · No Comments

I might like a Thundershirt, mommy!

TODAY’S TIDBIT:  I recently watched a video about a product called, “Thundershirt” that helps calm anxious dogs in a variety of situations including thunderstorms, traveling, barking, separation, fireworks just to name a few.

Thundershirt

While wearing Thundershirt gentle pressure is applied to the dog.  Experts believe that, pressure has a calming effect on the nervous system. Using pressure to relieve anxiety has been a common practice for years.”

According to statistics noted on Thundershirt’s website, “Based on surveys completed by over two thousand customers, over 80% of dogs show significant improvement in symptoms when using Thundershirt.”

Click here to view the Thundershirt in action.  Watch the videos and see for yourself.  It’s intriguing to say the least.  Janet Tobiassen Crosby, DVM whose opinion we highly respect used Thundershirt on her dog Sophie to keep her calm during some noisy fireworks and she said Sophie slept right through the noise!  Click here to read her review.

Have you tried the Thundershirt and have you had positive results?  How do you calm your dog’s anxiety?  Leave us your comment.  Have a wonderful weekend everybody…enjoy the sunshine!  See you on Wednesday for TODAY’S TIDBIT.

Friday’s Feature: Spay Day USA

March 2nd, 2012 · 4 Comments

No puppies for me, mommy!

TODAY’S TIDBIT:  February 29 was “Spay Day USA.”  Having your Yorkie spayed or neutered not only stops them from producing puppies but also helps reduce their risk of developing ovarian or testicular cancer.

Spaying or neutering your dog can help lessen aggression and your male dog will likely not lift his leg on your walls or furniture to mark his territory.

Gideon and Hope were neutered and spayed at about 10 months of age.  Your dog does not have to have her first heat before you get her spayed.  Female dogs in heat can be quite aggressive with other female dogs in the house.

So have your dog spayed or neutered.  It’s one of the kindest things you can do for them.  Have a great weekend everybody and see you on Wednesday for TODAY’S TIDBIT.   ***Quick Note: Modern Dog Magazine  is giving away neat doggy stuff this month.  Check them out!***
