I hope they have comfie beds, mommy!
TODAY’S TIDBIT: We LOVE to travel and finding decent accommodations that will accept dogs has always been a bit of a challenge! I just read in the spring edition of Modern Dog Magazine that the Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel will gladly accommodate your dog!
The ad reads, “The dog friendly Sheraton Centre Toronto. Where you’ll find a warm welcome waiting for your smallest family friend.” Sounds very inviting!
Check out their website at www.Sheraton.com/tospecials. Have a great weekend everybody and stay warm! See you on Wednesday for TODAY’S TIDBIT.

I love having my pic taken, mommy!
TODAY’S TIDBIT: I really LOVE dogs but I also LOVE animals! The Animal Planet channel is part of the Discovery Channel family and I’ve watched some amazing shows. If you don’t have access to the channel click on the following link, their website is spectacular! (Check out the Yorkshire Terrier video at the bottom of the page!)
On their site, you can watch all kinds of funny and informative videos about dogs, read pet health info, share and look at pet photos, learn about wild animals and so much more. I was so absorbed in this site I completely lost track of time!
Have a great weekend everybody and see you on Wednesday for TODAY’S TIDBIT.

I wish I had a Nylabone right now, mommy!
TODAY’S TIDBIT: Our little Yorkies LOVE Nylabones! They have no removable parts, are easy to clean, the Yorkies love to chew away on them and they can even play a little tug-of-war!

Nylabone
We recently saw a video of a Yorkie puppy with a little hard plastic ball stuck in his mouth. One of the openings on the toy seemed to have gotten caught on his teeth and the toy had to be cut into pieces to be removed from his mouth.
THANKFULLY the little puppy was ok after the toy was removed and his experience doesn’t seem to have slowed him down at all. But PLEASE make sure you only give your Yorkies toys that ARE NOT made of hard plastic and DO NOT have any removable parts. We like stuffing free toys, Kong toys and Nylabones.
Have a fantastic weekend everybody and see you on Wednesday for TODAY’S TIDBIT.

It's too cold out today, mommy!
TODAY’S FEATURE: We’ve had rain, freezing rain, snow…you name it (except sun!) this week. To de-ice our slippery sidewalk and driveway we use Eco-Traction, a chemical free product that’s made of a volcanic mineral that sticks to the ice and gives it traction. We’ve mentioned this product before but believe it’s safe and works.
Many traditional de-icers like rock salt contain chemicals that we don’t want our Yorkies ingesting. They’ll lick the salt from their paws and eat it off the floor or carpet when it’s brought into the house on people’s shoes. The salt can be irritating and make them sick.
So try Eco-Traction instead of salt. Have a safe weekend everybody and stay warm! See you on Wednesday for TODAY’S TIDBIT.

I'm Santa's little Yorkie reindeer, mommy!
TODAY’S TIDBIT: Hi folks! The countdown to Christmas begins! We’re about to start a new calendar year with lots of festive occasions to be sending out greeting cards. Why not try a box of “Fred Says” Greeting Cards?”

Fred
Fred is “a cute little Yorkie with a big heart,” says his Daddy, Dr. Rob Garofalo, Attending Physician at Children’s Memorial Hospital and Director of the Adolescent/Young Adult HIV Program.
Diagnosed with cancer in 2006, Dr. Garofalo bought Fred on Ebay of all places! He credits Fred with bringing both peace and joy to his life again. “Fred gave me my mojo back.” It’s Fred’s healing properties that led to this creative endeavor aimed at helping others.
Cutie photos of Fred are on the front of each card and his pics are really adorable! Proceeds from the sale of the cards go to care for HIV positive adolescents who do not have health insurance.
A box of “Fred Says” greeting cards sells for $20.00 USD at http://fredsays.org/. I don’t think Dr. Garofalo ships to Canada but I’m going to email him for more info and perhaps he will ship to us soon! I’ll keep you posted.
Have a wonderful weekend everybody and see you on Wednesday for TODAY’S TIDBIT. ***We’ve received some wonderful Christmas Doggy Pics for our Gallery next Friday but there’s always room for more so send your Christmas doggy pics to kathryn@absoluteyorkies.com***

I love toys, mommy!
TODAY’S TIDBIT: I’m a big fan of “Dr. Jon’s Dog Crazy Newsletter!“ Recently, he talked about the Top Dog Toys of 2011 and since you’re probably doing your Christmas shopping and wondering what safe toys to buy your doggie I thought I’d provide a link to his article.
The toys Dr. Jon recommends are well tested. Dr. Debra, Director of Product Research for PetProductAdvisor.com, went to four major pet product shows to find the safest and reasonably priced dog toys.
Dr. Jon says, “Dr. Debra carefully researches, picks and tests these products – and that testing is substantial. She and her team look at thousands of products. But less than 0.1% of these products will meet the guidelines and be “approved”.”
So have fun checking out Dr. Jon’s Top Dog Toys of 2011 (my fav is the Knotties Moose). Have a great weekend and see you on Wednesday for TODAY’S TIDBIT. ***Don’t forget to send us your doggy in her Christmas outfit for our Annual Christmas Photo Gallery***

I love my belly band, mommy!
TODAY’S TIDBIT: Christmas is one month away today!!! I can hardly believe it! We’re making our Christmas plans to visit my family in my hometown and I’m thinking about what to pack for the Yorkies. My parents have carpeting and the last thing I want is a little “Yorkie accident” left behind!
Gideon wears his “Belly Band” — a nice fabric band with a quarter of a Depends pad inside and then secured with velcro around his waist. So if he doesn’t get to the pee pad in time he has the protection of his Belly Band.

Belly Band
We order our Belly Bands from a talented small business owner in Sugar Land, Texas — Linda from FuFuFashions. She makes lots of cute outfits and accessories for small dogs like Yorkies. Check out her site before Christmas!
Have a great holiday Friday to our American friends and see everybody back her on Wednesday for TODAY’S TIDBIT.

I wish there was a cure for cancer, mommy!
TODAY’S TIDBIT: When a loved one passes away, we often make a donation to a charity our loved one supports. My family always honours a loved one’s memory by making a donation in the person’s name to the Ontario Veterinary College’s Pet Trust Fund.
The much needed funds are used to support cancer treatment for sick animals and research to help find a cure for this devastating disease.
We receive the OVC Pet Trust Fund online newsletter, “Best Friends Newsletter” full of interesting articles about new cancer treatments for animals and innovative ways people are raising funds.
Have a wonderful weekend everyone and see you on Wednesday for TODAY’S TIDBIT. ***Our important series, “Disaster Planning: Do It Now!” with Judy Wright continues on Wednesday. Don’t miss it!***

Are we going to cuddle, mommy?
TODAY’S TIDBIT: Now that the cooler weather’s here, I LOVE wrapping myself in a cozy blanket and cuddling up to my Yorkies while reading a good book. Last winter I spotted the book, Stay by Allie Larkin in Chapters. And I’m glad I did.

On a whim, broken hearted Savannah buys a dog from a foreign country over the internet after the man she’s been in love with forever marries her best friend. She soon begins to realize that this big dog that only understands Slovak will always be loyal to her no matter what.
That’s all I’m going to say! I really liked Stay and I hope you do too. Have a wonderful weekend everybody and we’ll see you back here on Wednesday for TODAY’S TIDBIT.
