Marilyn & Kathryn, What a grat idea for a yorkie lovers site. My two babies are the sweetest yorkies, they come from Adanta Yorkshire Terriers. Marilyn is a wonderful breeder and Grandmother to my babies.

Your site is fantastic! I’m busy reading all the archives. My biggest problem, or only problem, with my yorkie is feeding him. I can’t seem to find something he will eat for very long! I don’t always have time to cook for him, although he loves it when I do!

Hi Pat, thank you so much and we’re glad you’re enjoying what we’ve written! Some Yorkies can be fussy when it comes to food. We feed kibble and wet food…two of my Yorkies will eat everything in sight but Hope can be picky at times. Your Yorkie is smart Pat…who wouldn’t like home cooking… :) Our experience has been that Yorkies love the Canine Life cooked muffins they’re called (but they’re made of turkey, chicken or beef with veggies and shaped like a muffin). We haven’t found a Yorkie yet who doesn’t like them.

I have a 9 year old Yokie she is 4 lbs, she was spayed at 6 years old, my baby would always go to the pottie pad. Ever since she came home she would pee on the bed on the couch where ever everywhere. She still goes on the pad but goes everywhere too. My vet said she probably had a urinary infec. but that was when i brought her home…..she still does….. does she have damage from the spay. and how can I help her?

one other question i feed my baby only can food from the vet, and iams doggy bones the puppy ones she wont eat anything else… the dog food is z/d diet….needless to say her teeth get bad within a year i have had her teeth cleaned twice but my vet wants to knock her out im so uncomfortable putting Sadie under…. can you have her teeth cleaned without putting her under. and is it bad to have them put under?

Hi Denise, Marilyn our resident Yorkie breeder suggests that you take Sadie back to the vet for a check up to see if she has a bladder infection and ask the vet to do a Wellness Test (blood work). The tooth decay that you mentioned in your other question could be affecting her health so you need to talk to your vet. She can also suggest ways to brush or clean her teeth. If Sadie isn’t eating kibble, then the tartar and plaque can build up and cause problems. We’re not aware of any formal teeth cleaning procedures done on a dog’s teeth without anaesthetic. But you really should take Sadie back to the vet and have a good consultation. We hope this info has helped you. It’s sometimes challenging when dogs begin to get a little older and need a bit of special care but you sound like a good mom!
